World Spine Day: 5 Spine Care Tips To Follow In Your 20s To Avoid Back Problems

I don’t know why but I think that I have aged 10 years over the past 1 year. I think getting a job and sitting all-day has somehow ruined my back and now I am worse than my 80 year old grandma constantly complaining about a backache. However, upon further research, I have realised that taking care of my spine should start in my 20s and not later when the pain has aggravated beyond repair. And assuming you guys are just as tired in life as I am, here are some tips you must keep in mind to make sure you ain’t breaking your back in your 20s.

1. Take it slow

All exercise increases should generally be gradual. However, most people don’t consider slowing down when they are in their 20s and feeling victorious. Long-term problems might arise from adopting a “I am invincible” mentality and working hard at a new sport or activity without first developing a solid physical fitness foundation.

2. Stretching

Yoga isn’t some hip thing that only woke fitness enthusiasts do. Incorporating a bit of yoga and stretching will help improve the flexibility of your spine and also relieve some your built up stress and pain. You can start with trying to incorporating some beginner-friendly poses and stretches

3. Don’t ignore your mattress

Your spine will benefit from a supportive mattress that is firm. You’ll not only get better sleep, but it will also help you maintain better posture as you sleep. Keep a pillow between your knees if you sleep on your side and keep one underneath your knees if you sleep on your back.

4. Avoid Too Much Heavy Lifting

Repetitive heavy lifting can harm your back for the rest of your life, whether you do it everyday at work or whenever friends need help moving furniture or other large items. Parents may find themselves carrying their children more frequently, especially when they are small, without understanding that this could cause long-term harm.

5. Pay Heed To Your Injuries

It is possible for an accident to result in long-term progressive degeneration in the spine if a person has a history of back pain or injury that may not have healed while they “pushed through the pain.” In adolescence and early adulthood, the body can compensate for spinal damage, but in the thirties and forties, the body can do far less.

It is crucial to always be aware of and pay attention to your body, regardless of your age. Although it’s simple to write off mild back pain as a routine part of life, taking care of your back and employing proper lifting techniques may prevent long-term harm. So be sure to be mindful of these tips and maintain a healthy back.
