Adults On Reddit Answer Why They Chose Not To Have Children And It Makes So Much Sense

Growing up as a girl – especially in India – one thing that was ingrained into me was that women without children are incomplete. I mean, from our television shows to our movies, all of it talks about how motherhood completes a woman and how kids are what makes one’s family complete. Honestly, I don’t believe it. To have children or not is a couple’s choice and no matter what their choice is, the family is as complete as is the other one’s. And this ideology needs to be idealized. One way of me trying to make you readers think about it is by showing you some Reddit answers by adults who willingly chose not to have children. Honestly, the answers are practical.

One of the Reddit users by the name of u/Tiiiimmmooo posed a question to the other adult Redditors and asked them why they chose to not have children the reason why they chose to not have children. The user said, “Adults with no kids – what’s it really like? How old are you, and what was that decision like?”

The answers by other Reddit users were not only practical but also thought-provoking. Now, I know that going through all the comments under the question can be quite tedious, so I’ve made a list of my favorite answers and they are inspired by Buzzfeed’s list as well.

Having children is a personal and intimate choice that a couple makes. Forcing them to or criticizing them or thinking less of them just because they chose not to have a couple just shows how close-minded we are as a society. I think it is about time that we normalize for couples to choose not to have children if they don’t want to and these Reddit answers show us just how normal it is to not want children.
