Tanishaa Mukerji Says Having Children Is A Personal Choice. And It Is Okay To Not Have Children.

What a woman does with her body is her own choice. Whether she wants to get pierced or whether she wants to abort a baby – it is her body and she should have the right to choose. Telling women what they should do and how they should do it is extremely problematic. In society, we believe that a woman is complete when she becomes a mother. But what if she doesn’t want to? What if she is not ready at that particular point in time? A woman should be given a choice and as a society, we need to be comfortable with the options she goes with. And Tanishaa Mukerji is one of the actresses that is talking about exactly that.

Recently, Tanishaa Mukerjee went on record and stated that she had frozen her eggs at the age of 39. She did so in case she ever wanted children in the future. And even her doctor advised her to do so instead of undergoing a surgery she wanted to do at 33 years of age.

Tanishaa Mukerjee spoke about how her doctor advised her to freeze her eggs only when she had ‘no hope of conceiving a baby’. In fact, she also added that her decision was a personal choice and it was okay for women to not want children. And that right there is about choice and we are glad someone is speaking up about it.

In her interview with a daily, Tanishaa Mukerjee spoke about her being ‘very conflicted’ when she was turning 39. She was conflicted about how she wanted to freeze her eggs or if she wanted to at all. She said that “I didn’t have a baby and all these things were going on in my mind. I finally got some guidance and froze my eggs at the age of 39. But I also put on a lot of weight due to the procedure. They pump you with a lot of Progesterone and it bloats you a lot. Not putting on weight, you become round and glowing and become very beautiful. I love pregnant women, they are in their most beautiful phase with that baby glow. I was very happy about freezing my eggs.” After which she scheduled her routine around hardcore workouts in order to get fit.

During the interview, Tanishaa Mukerjee even spoke about how she first had thought about freezing her eggs at 33. An interesting point that Tanishaa raised is that at that time, the doctor had recommended that she not do it. She mentioned that the process takes a toll on the body and that she should only go ahead with it when she had no hope of  conceiving a baby, a recommendation that seems problematic right and pretends that women shouldn’t have a choice or are incapable of making a decision. Tanishaa says, “…It’s a personal choice. And today, it is perfectly ok to not have children. Adopt, there’s enough in this world. More people need to go out and talk about this. It’s ok for women to not have children. That’s not the only calling in your life. It’s ok to not get married, not be in a relationship and not define yourself with a man beside you.”

Tanishaa’s thoughts on the topic put emphasis on the fact that a woman has the choice of children irrespective of whether she is married, has children, or is in a relationship with someone. It’s a choice that she should be allowed to make at any point, without the moral compasses of parents, doctors and others coming into play.
