From Gastropub To Japanese Dining, 9 Spots In Mumbai You Must Try This Monsoon!

Mumbai has always been home to some of the country’s most exotic food spots. From bespoke platters and traditional Indian meals to speakeasy bars and even a taste of Southeast Asia, there’s more than you can ever try in one night. And with the legendary rains coming back to the city, restaurants situated in the hottest corners of the town have our eyes on them. I mean, it’s the best weather to try out a cocktail or two, with food that matches your mood. So, to make things easy for you, we put our taste buds to work and curated a list of our new favourites of the month. Check it out!

London Favourite Finds A New Home!

If you wish to elevate your ramen experience on a rainy day with a dash of London’s most-celebrated flavours, I’m happy to recommend Wagamama, Mumbai. Seated in the middle of the city’s architectural genius, Churchgate, the British restaurant chain expands its universe. And mind you, I’ve got my favourites spanning from chili tantanmen and bang bang prawns to the classic katsu curry. Pair the dishes with crispy cocktails or a bottle of soju with a side of chocolate layer cake (which I’m still dreaming about).

Italian Dream

Think hand-rolled pasta, Aperol Spritz, flirty windows, and interiors that teleport you to a European summer; that’s how CinCin’s newly opened spot in Bandra welcomes you. Right on the 13th floor of Mansionz One, Linking Road, CinCin captures Italy’s flirtatious vibe with its extensive menu. Right from sorbet cocktails and Piccante pizza to the famous tiramisu, CinCin is perfect for a Sunday brunch.

Are We Feeling Retro?

If you’re in the mood for a retro night and an old-school bar experience with live music elevating your dinner plans, High Note Bandra would make for a great choice. The cocktail menu is as elaborate as it can get, right from SoundCheck Highball to High Note No.5, amongst other sweet, savoury cocktails. Aiming to be a version of a vintage-style gastropub, High Note is generous with its food offerings featuring shareable bowls and small plates with equal halves of rice and curry of choice.

Sunday Brunch With Family

If you’re planning to reset for the week with a lavish Sunday brunch, punctuated with conversations on a shared table with your family, Flint would be the perfect spot. Stationed in the whisper-proof, lush-green landscapes of NCPA, Nariman Point, Flint is a grill-forward, all-day cafe. With cottage house-like exteriors, the menu offers a global fusion cuisine, catering to everybody seated at the table. My favourites? Well, flamed burrata, spaghetti with creamy black truffle butter, tofu curry udon noodle bowl, and an in-house batch of breads to keep you cozy in this weather.

Mediterranean Dinner

A revised take on the Lebanese dining experience is Mabruk at Sahara Star, Vile Parle. The relaunch of this iconic restaurant offers a rich culinary experience. Think falafel, lamb mandi, and D’Jaj Khachapuri, a wholesome grill experience for meat lovers, all accompanied by a cocktail station. This seems like a no-brainier for a long dinner date.

Tokyo Dream

Another favourite in the list is Harajuku at the Jio World Drive. This Tokyo-styled cafe, nestled in the busy lanes of BKC offers a casual, Japanese dining experience. Harajuku’s menu goes from sushi bomb, miso ramen, cold plates to nigiri with Tokyo-street inspired roof and lighting, elevating your experience. Besides a Japanese spread, visitors should definitely indulge in the bakehouse menu, featuring the iconic mochi, pudding, Instagram’s favourite jiggly pancakes and a lot more.

Friday’s Favourite

If you’re looking to unwind straight after office with an easy, no-fuss dinner, try Lyla. A Mexican-Californian cafe and all day bar, located in BKC. Sister brand to Gigi, Donna Deli and Eve, Lyla is both class and casual. The Tex-Mex menu features savoury churros, cheesy dips, Tequila lime chicken wings, Hawaiian chicken tacos, paired with spicy cocktails. The exotic interiors with a holiday-spirit will help you kickstart the weekend.

An Ode To Japan

Bringing Japanese fine dining to Mumbai’s Bandra, Amaru goes beyond the staple sushi. Carved rock interiors with a communal bar sitting at its heart, Amaru brings a wholesome mix of Japanese and Peruvian flavours to your table. The menu offerings include prawn-led Arroz con Mariscos, Tofu Steak, Peruvian stir-fry, and Quinoa Arancini, besides other exciting names. And don’t forget to try the delicious cocktails ranging from tropical flavours to classic caffeine-infused servings.

Wine And Dine

A thoughtful pairing of Pan-Asian delicacies and Fratelli wines to the rescue. Curated to escape dull evenings, enjoy the season’s heaviest rain showers at Novotel Mumbai’s Sampan. The four-course wine experience will help you find your favourite from the brand with an elegant Pan-Asian menu to pair it with.
