Three Sisters Locked Up By Five Men In Uttar Pradesh For Asking For Their Wages. Two Of Them Were Gang Raped.
That the world is a scary place, is a fact. But that it is worse for those born female, and we are reminded of this on the daily, as everyday more gruesome crimes against women keep on surfacing. Taking away our hope for a safer world for women, one crime at a time, it is a shame that despite several rallies against this, laws put into place and vigilant police teams being deployed, women still run the risk of being attacked anywhere and anytime. Like in the case of these three sisters from Uttar Pradesh, who were held hostage by 5 men and 2 of them were gang raped.
The incident is said to have taken place in Phoolbehar in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district on June 4.
Three sisters were locked up and held hostage by a total of 5 men. Reports suggest that the group of men felt instigated to ‘punish’ the girls, who worked as labourers in the area, after the girls dared to ask for their wages from the men. Two of the three sisters that were held hostage, were gang raped by the men.

The 5 men that were accused were arrested by the police about 4 days since after the crime. Reports share that the sisters, who were aged 18, 20 and 22 all went to Mohan Kumar’s farm on June 4 to ask for their wages, when they realised there were 4 other men present. And so, when the sisters asked for money, Kumar and others locked them up and they sexually assaulted two of them.
Kheri SSP Vijay Dhull said, “The girls have recorded their statement before the court and have also identified the five accused. After gathering circumstantial and forensic evidence, we have sent the accused to jail. The investigation in this case is still on.” The five have been booked under sections 376d (gang rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
