Horror Of Wartime: Russian Forces Rape Women In Captured Ukrainian Cities, Reports Ukraine Foreign Minister
There’s nothing more sad than the lost lives of innocent residents that are crushed between a war of two nations. And as the world witnesses the gruelling battle between Russia and Ukraine, women have yet again become a victim. With rape being used as a weapon for war, the latest reports about the situation in Ukraine, throw light upon the rising number of rape cases. Talking about the horrors of the war, many Russian troops are raping women across the county and captured cities as revealed by Ukraine foreign minister, Dmytro Kuleba, who shared in a video, “When bombs fall on your cities when soldiers rape women in the occupied cities, it’s difficult of course to speak about the efficiency of international law…….as a country that committed an act of aggression, will be held accountable for its deeds.”

Using rape as a tool to create a feeling of fear, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is turning cities into ghost lands, with rising cases of sexual attack over women in the newly captured Kherson, followed by murders. The statement by the Ukrainian minister and people of Ukraine surfaced when Russia’s dearest allies broke ties with the country on Friday, during a vote of the United Nations for alleged human rights violations in Ukraine.

This dark nature of war also makes me think about the lives and rights of several women that get buried under bullets and warfare caused by the clash of male egos. The situation also stands contrary to the celebration of women and their power across the globe on Women’s Day. Illustrating the abusive issue of wartime, violence against women has been a continued affair, ever since World War I and II, when Moroccan troops battled with French forces with a license to rape and plunder in enemy territory, and even during the latest instances of Ethiopia war, where Tigrayan fighters gang-raped hundreds of women and girls as young as the age of 14. And it’s sad enough that years and years later, the vicious crime has no stopping.

There was information from people that I personally know that a 17-year-old girl — it happened to her and then they killed her.”
