Indian Students Stranded Due To Russia-Ukraine War Ask For Indian Government’s Help To Come Back Home, Videos Go Viral

Ever since Russia invaded Ukraine, the fear of the onset of World War III has been in the air. And the condition of people living in Ukraine is getting worse by the hour – especially for foreign students which include tens of thousands of Indian students. In fact, from the videos that have been doing the rounds, it is allegedly reported that many Indian students have been assaulted by Ukrainian forces. General secretary of Congress, Priyanka Gandhi, and the former president of the Indian National Congress, Rahul Gandhi, both took to their social media accounts to share the videos that show Ukrainian forces assaulting Indian students.

The video shared by Priyanka Gandhi on her Twitter shows a young Indian student from Lucknow, UP asking the country to help her and many students like her. The young student is Garima Mishra who in the video was extremely panicky and scared regarding their stay in Ukraine.

In the video that she shared from Ukraine, Garima Mishra said “We are surrounded from all eyes…no one is helping and I don’t know if we will get any help… Where we are staying, people come, they create a disturbance and try to come in, we can’t understand what is happening.” The student also revealed that they received the news that Russian soldiers had stopped buses that were taking students to the border from where they were flown outside the country. She also added that an open firing took place on the students and the soldiers picked up the girls. They are unaware of what happened to the male students.

The video of Garima Mishra concluded with the Indian student asking the Indian army to help without which they are not going to survive in Ukraine. Sharing the video, Priyanka Gandhi wrote (translated), “… @narendramodi ji, @DrSJaishankar ji the videos of Indian students coming from Ukraine are very disturbing to the mind. For God’s sake, do whatever it takes to bring these children back to India. The whole nation is with these students and their families…”

In another video, that was shared by Rahul Gandhi, you can clearly see the Ukrainian forces assaulting and mistreating Indian students who have taken shelter. In fact, there are many such videos that have gone completely viral with students in Ukraine asking for help from the Indian government.

Another of the videos that were shared by a student showed that she and 12 other Indian students were stuck at the Ukrainian-Slovakian border for over 12hours without food and water. In the video, the Indian student alleged that Ukrainian police have used pepper spray and chili sprays on them thrice after which many of the students fainted. She further said that they have tried calling the Slovakian embassy for help and the Kyiv embassy which is out of service. The Indian student asked what they are supposed to do since everyone is telling them that they cannot help them.

One of the Indian students also said, “There was firing at our hostel and a couple of men entered our hostel with guns and took our location coordinates. We don’t even know if they were Ukrainian or Russian soldiers. Our gate is broken. We don’t even have security.” He revealed that there were more than 200 students stuck in the hostel which is close to the airport in Ukraine.

As per reports, there are around 16,000 Indian students in Ukraine. Out of which many of them have taken to social media to share images and videos of them in underground bunkers and bomb shelters where they are hiding.

Honestly, just watching the videos and pictures coming out of Ukraine that are shared by Indian students numbs my heart. I can’t even imagine what it must be like. I really hope this ends soon and they can return back safely to their homeland.
