From MPs To Beauty Queens, Ukrainian Women March Into Battle Against Russia
For the longest time, I believe we have underestimated women and their potential, especially when it comes to “masculine” fields such as the armed forces. I believe that has majorly been the case of women who are conventionally beautiful; we as a society have somehow associated femininity with weakness and helplessness. However, amidst the ongoing war due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Ukrainian women are changing that perception in the form of Ukrainian Miss Universe Anastasiia Lenna and Member of Parliament Kira Rudik.
Russian troops have invaded and reached the capital city Kyiv and important city Kharkiv. Amidst this time of war and uncertainty, Ukrainian women have also joined in the fight to defend their country. MP Kira Rudik. Took to Twitter with a picture with a Kalashnikov rifle and the caption saying, “I learn to use Kalashnikov and prepare to bear arms. It sounds surreal as just a few days ago it would never come to my mind. Our women will protect our soil the same way as our men. Go Ukraine!”

She also posted a picture to Instagram where she was armed and ready for a fight.

Other than her, Ukrainian Miss Universe Anastasiia Lenna has also picked up arms. Taking to Instagram, she too posted a picture with arms and gear on. She captioned it saying, “22.02.2022 ?? #standwithukrain #handsoffukraine”.

While most of us are fortunate to have not suffered the devastation of war, it is not too hard to have compassion enough to understand how much fear Ukraine and its citizens are going through. At a time like this, I applaud any civilian who is fighting for their country.
