BJP MP, Roopa Ganguly Comments On The Hanskhali Rape Case, Compares It To Her Character Draupadi’s Cheer Haran
I firmly believe that the mark of a good actor is when they absorb and emulate the character so well that you don’t see an actor playing the character but the character themselves. Such is the case of actor turned politician Roopa Ganguly who played the role of Draupadi in B R Chopra’s Mahabharat and is now a BJP MP. She recently brought up the daunting experience of the cheer haran scene and related it to the rape victims of India and especially, West Bengal.
In a recent video, Roopa Ganguly spoke about her daunting experience of the cheer haran scene she had to be a part of while playing Draupadi. She said she could feel the pain of Draupadi and all the victims of rape in our country and West Bengal. Her comments come amidst the case of a gang rape that happened to a minor in West Bengal.

Ganguly recalled how playing Draupadi wasn’t merely acting but she felt the character’s pain. She said that for those 8 days, she would return to the hotel room and cry. She said that if a woman is forcefully disrobed and laughed at, she is going to be in pain and she appealed to everyone to imagine a woman’s pain in that situation. She further added that is what the women of West Bengal are currently experiencing, at least the ones that are alive.
