On March 8, 2022, President Ram Nath Kovind presented the prestigious Nari Shakti Award for 2020 and 2021. The awards were given to 29 women and girls for their exceptional work in their respective fields, the award ceremony took place in Rashtrapati Bhavan. All the recipients work in different fields such as entrepreneurship, agriculture, innovation, social work, education, literature, linguistics, arts, crafts, STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), disability rights, merchant navy, wildlife conservation etc. The prestigious award was given to Anita Gupta who is an entrepreneur, Ushaben Dineshbhai Vasava who is an organic farmer and tribal activist, Intel-India head Nivruti Rai, Saylee Nandkishor Agavane who is an exceptional Kathak dancer with down syndrome. Vanita Jagdeo Borade who is the first woman snake rescuer and mathematician Neena Gupta also received the award.
Other recipients are Padma Yangchan for preserving lost cuisines, Thara Rangaswamy for creating awareness about various mental disorders, Tage Rita Takhe for promoting local products internationally, Sruti Mohapatra for working towards the upliftment of disabled people, Shobha Gasti for starting NGO for women and girls, Sathupathi Prasanna for preserving minority tribal languages, Radhika Menon who works in Indian Merchant Navy, entrepreneur Pooja Sharma, Niranjanaben Mukulbhai who helps tribal girls in getting education, Neerja Madhav who works for marginalised people, Madhulika Ramteke to empower women, Kamal Kumbhar for promoting women entrepreneurship in animal husbandry, Anshul Malhotra who works for underprivileged rural women, folk artist Batool Begam, Tiffany Brar for empowering visually impaired rural women, Sandhya Dhar who works towards rights of the disabled people, Nasira Akhter who works towards environmental conservation, Meera Thakur who works for underprivileged women, Jodhaiya Bai Baiga for promoting tribal art at global level, Jaya Muthu and Tejamma for preserving Toda embroidery of Nilgiris, Dr Ela Lodh working towards women’s health, and weaver Arti Rana.
