Former Sarpanch Marries His 3 Live-In Girlfriends Of 15 Years In The Same Mandap At The Same Time. What A Player?

Having read the most random of things Indian men do on a daily basis, I really didn’t think that anything would surprise me anymore. But a man from Madhya Pradesh shocked and surprised me and in not the most pleasant way either. So what did he do? Well, he married (I know not surprising) his three girlfriends (a little bit surprising) in the same mandap (this is not it, wait for it) with whom he has been in a live-in relationship for 15 years (yep, that). Yep, this man actually married all his three live-in girlfriends at the same time, in the same mandap, in accordance with the tribal customs. I want to say whatta playaar, but no, he definitely isn’t.

On Sunday, a 42-year-old former Sarpanch of Nagpur village, Samrath Mourya became the talk of the town when he married three women at the same time after being in a live-in relationship with them for 15 years. The wedding was in accordance with the tribal customs and took place in the Alirajpur district, Madhya Pradesh.

As per the reports, the man has six children with these three women, who are all aged between 30 and 35. All six of the kids took part in the wedding rituals that went on for three long days. The wedding left people wondering whether a man who belongs to a tribal community can marry more than one woman at a time.

Speaking about his wedding, the former Sarpanch said, “As per the customs and rituals, I took ‘phere’ with all three women in the same mandap.” He also went on to say that after the wedding, the community will now permit them to partake in all the rituals of the tribal community at the temple and that his children’s wedding will also be done as per the tribal rituals.

When asked about the man marrying three women, the district collector of Alirajpur, Raghwendra Singh said, “Presently, I can’t comment if marrying more than one woman in a tribal community is legitimate but tribes have their own customs and rituals and we respect it.”

This news really has taken me by surprise. I honestly can’t comment on this as I do not have much knowledge about the tribal communities and their rituals and customs. But if the people involved – especially the women – are okay with this decision, then well who are we to question it, right?
