Exclusive: VERIVERY Reveals How 3 Idiots Inspired Their CONFETTI Concept, Indian Concert, And More!

VERIVERY is back with their 8th mini-album, CONFETTI, and fans have been loving every bit of it! Featuring five tracks, the album is led by the title song Don’t Panic!, bringing a fresh new sound from the group. We recently had the chance to sit down with VERIVERY and chat about their new music, the concept behind the album, their preparation process, upcoming concerts in India, and much more. Read on to know all about it.

1. Indian cinema and music have been making huge waves globally. Have any of the members recently watched an Indian movie, listened to an Indian song, or seen a dance clip online that caught your attention or inspired you artistically?

DONGHEON: For me it’s “Dangal”! I really liked it. I came across it while watching shorts, and I just started watching casually, but the more I watched the more I got drawn in, and I felt so moved.

GYEHYEON: When we were having meetings about this album’s concept, we thought about “All is well”, the motto from “3 Idiots”, while shaping the concept. It’s a film I really enjoyed, so I’d say it’s something I drew a lot of inspiration from.

YEONHO: I really love the Indian film “3 Idiots”. I remember watching it when I was young and laughing so much. I’m planning to pay more attention to Indian films and music going forward.

YONGSEUNG: I really enjoyed the film “3 Idiots”. I was laughing so much the whole time. It was just the type I liked.

KANGMIN: When I listen to traditional Indian music, I think there’s a distinct power that comes from the instruments. I think it’s a really beautiful style of music!

2. Indian VERRERs have been passionately streaming your releases and showing love on social media for years. With global touring actively back on the agenda, is India on your radar for future tour stops or fan meets?

KANGMIN: Going abroad, experiencing the culture of the local place, and building memories on the stage with local fans is such a valuable experience. So as long as we’re invited, we’re always ready to go! We know well how much our fans in India love us, so if we ever get the chance to visit, I think we could put on a really fun show.

3. You said each album is like finding another piece of VERIVERY. With CONFETTI, what new side of yourselves did you find during the preparation process that has not been seen before?

DONGHEON: I think we got to try a lot of experimental things while making the unit songs for the first time. There are sounds that might be limiting given VERIVERY’s character or hard for all of us to pull off together. But splitting into units this time, we got to draw out the strengths of each combination while working on music in a style quite different from what we do as a group. YONGSEUNG and KANGMIN’s “Touch” and my song with GYEHYEON and YEONHO, “Eye Contact”, are both very interesting tracks, so please give them a listen!

YONGSEUNG: In my case, I tried changing my vocal tone while working on this album. I’ve always thought my voice has a kind of “foggy” quality to it, so when recording, I used to try to tone that down so it wouldn’t stand out too much. But for this album, I tried flipping that and making it as a strength instead, so I recorded in a way that lets it come through even more. I think it turned out really well in the end, so I’m very curious what our fans will think!

4. For this comeback, your concept is all about being a ‘cheer squad’ that brings energy to people. In real life when the cameras are off, which member is the actual cheerleader of the group when someone is having a bad day, and how do they lift everyone’s mood?

DONGHEON: YONGSEUNG! Both personally and for the team, he always gives a lot of encouraging words, and whenever we hesitate, he tends to step up first and tell us we can do it.

GYEHYEON: I’ll pick YONGSEUNG because he makes us laugh the most and is also a great listener!

5. You started your career with bright, energetic concepts, then dove into intense, dark universes, and now you are bringing back that happy, joyful energy with CONFETTI. What made you decide to take this route right now?

DONGHEON: We actually started this album with a few goals set out. Things like making music that shows how much fun we have on stage and making music we could perform at our upcoming “GIVE ME FIVE, KEEP THAT VIBE” tour and enjoy together with our fans. With “CONFETTI”, we wanted to draw out the reaction “Wow, VERIVERY is so fun” more than “VERIVERY is so cool.”
