UK Woman Marries Her Cat To Avoid Eviction By Landlord. Is This The Purrfect Love Story Or What?
I am a self-proclaimed TLC fangirl. And having watched my fair share of reality shows on it, I will say that the one that intrigued me the most was My Strange Addiction. As the name suggests, the show was about individuals who were obsessed with pretty taboo objects. I remember watching a man in love with his car (not in the way you’d think) and one in love with balloons; yeah, I don’t know how to justify my choices to you guys. Anyway, I was reminded of this show so early in the day because I read the news of a UK woman who got married to her cat just so landlords couldn’t separate them. A 49-year-old UK woman named Deborah Hodge has recently got married to her pet cat named India after she had been facing rental restrictions which stopped her from bringing animals into the unit. She apparently found a loophole which enabled her to avoid rental restrictions. The woman already has had to rehome 3 of her pets in the past as she was facing eviction threats and was ‘feline’ terrified from the threat of losing her 5-year-old pet cat, she held the ceremony on April 19. She is hopeful that this act will show landlords that she is committed to her cat and that they come as a package deal. According to New York Post, Hodge said, “She is fundamentally the most important thing in my life after my children.”

Hodge allegedly held the ceremony at a park in southeast London. She and India were seen wearing matching tuxedos. India was meowing throughout the vows and Hodge’s friends watched the ceremony unfold. Hodge said that she vowed to the universe that no man will ever separate her from India. She also further added that she would rather be on the streets than be separated from her cat. Hodge was previously forced to give up 2 huskies at a previous rental as the landlord threatened her with eviction. She has also turned away from another rental unit because of her previous cat, Jamal. Hodge said that having to let go of 3 pets left her heartbroken.
