10 Little Habits That Help To Relieve Stress

10 Little Habits That Help To Relieve Stress

In today’s day and age, stress has become part and parcel of our everyday lives. Getting to work on time? Stress. Meeting deadlines? Stress. Wanting to finish your work quickly so that you can go hang out with friends later? Stress! And these are just the little things. Not the big picture. Honestly, we tend to worry about tons of things in life.

Well, not anymore. It’s time to loosen up those shoulder muscles and take deep, long breaths. Try to let go of that stress bunched up inside your body. Stress, as you all know, can cause a lot of harm. From being a major factor in causing heart diseases and attacks, stress also leads to breathing problems, irregular menstrual cycles, and so much more.

But don’t worry. There’s a lot you can do to curb it. These little habits don’t require a lot of time or energy, and can do wonders in helping you ease the stress. So, sit back, relax, and keep reading.

1. Enjoy The Little Things

We’re all so caught up with running our lives that we hardly have time to enjoy little things, from spending time with family or even the comfort of your own company. So sit down and really relish your morning cup of coffee, for example. Beauty, after all, lies in the little things.

2. Declutter Your Space

Too much clutter on your desk at work or at home can cause stress. Leaving so many unwanted things lying around can distract you. If you’re a neat freak, it’s really going to stress you out! So put away those files and things you don’t need everyday. A clear desk leads to a clear mind.

3. Breathe Deeply

Deep breathing truly works wonders! Each time I’m nervous, I resort to this technique and I feel better in minutes. So the next time you’re stressed out, just close your eyes and take a couple of long, deep breaths.

4. Drink Tea

Coffee-lover? Most of us love our cups of java. But studies have shown that drinking tea in the mornings can help calm you down. Green tea works even better, especially for the immune system and your general health and well-being. Swap that cup of coffee with some tea instead.

5. Go For A Jog

Going for a quick sprint or a walk around the neighbourhood is a great option. Running releases endorphins that can elevate your mood and make you feel like you can conquer the world. You will surely emerge calmer and happier.

6. Keep A Journal

I used to keep a journal as a child. I would pen down all of my thoughts and it would actually keep me happy. Perhaps you should try it out, too. Writing down your thoughts can be an excellent way to unload what’s going on in your head and kick out that stress.

7. Switch Off Your Phone An Hour Before Bed

While none of us can seem to exist without technology, these gadgets are what stress us out in the first place! So make sure to switch off your phone and other devices an hour before bedtime. Otherwise, you’re just going to keep scrolling through your Facebook or Instagram feed and lose out on some precious sleep.

8. Laugh As Much As You Can

Whatever you do, never suppress the urge to laugh. Laughter truly is the best medicine! It takes ages off you and it undoubtedly leaves you feeling a lot more relaxed and happy.

9. Listen To Music

Music does have the power to heal, and can release stress as well. Just plug in your earphones, play some soothing music, and feel all that stress melt away.

10. Spend Time Outdoors

We lead an urban lifestyle. Most of the times, we’re cooped up inside the office, in a restaurant, or at home. Shake off this habit. Every once in a while hit the good outdoors. Be it a hike outside of town, or camping in the nearby hills. Tilt your face up to the sky and feel that smile brightening up your face.
