During a chat with Humans of Bombay, Lalit Modi recalled his previous relationship with Sushmita Sen and called her a “dear friend and important part” of his life. He looked back at the infamous Instagram post that revealed their relationship to the public in 2022 and marked it as an impulsive decision that sparked a big negative reaction, none of them expected. The businessman defended the actor and said that her success was of her own and that she was a self-made woman. As per him, she has more diamonds than anyone and even owns diamond stores.

The former IPL chairman stated that Sushmita never relied on him for money when they were dating and that she “paid for everything,” with him being a “kept boyfriend.” Lalit Modi revealed that the Bollywood star never accepts anything from anyone and was completely misunderstood after people called her a gold digger. He cheekily added that, contrary to popular belief, the businessman was a “diamond digger” and Sen was the true “diamond.” He reflected on her and said that Sushmita had a great influence on him and helped him grow.
