In It’s New Rules, Taliban Bans Women From Sitting For University Entrance Exams
Entrance/competitive exams are now a part of the list of restrictions imposed by the Taliban on women. According to the new ban, now female students in Afghanistan will not be allowed to sit for entrance or competitive exams until the next notice. This new rule was communicated to further universities through a written notice. Following the group’s previously announced rules for women in Afghanistan, which restricted them to exercise their right to education, this new rule prevents both private and public universities from signing up female students.

And while this rule may baffle most of us, higher education minister Nida Mohammed Nadim from Afghanistan believes it to be an important step, to restrict further interaction between men and women in colleges. He also mentioned how some of the subjects seem to violate Islamic principles. But may we ask, why is it just for women? Sadly under this new rule, women will not be allowed to apply for bachelor’s or master’s programmes, and not sit for entrance exams that are supposed to take place in February. This new rule by the Taliban, also warns every university to follow the notice to avoid any further legal action, according to sources.
The Taliban have reportedly BANNED women from taking the university entrance exam (Kankor) in Afghanistan. This can only mean that the ban on women going to university will be permanent.

Previously, female students were restricted to sign up for schools and colleges for further education. Even after receiving backlash for this decision, the education ministry promised to resolve the situation, as soon as the “technical issues” were taken care of. But soon after, it imposed a new ban on women’s education through the restrictions put on entrance exams.
Ever since the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan in the year 2021, its rules for women have been a matter of concern for the entire world. From forcing women to wear hijabs to violating every woman’s basic rights, the Taliban continues to do so.
