Every day, there is some horrifying and terrorising crime against women. Another shocking incident has now emerged from Uttar Pradesh, where a man assaulted his wife for having periods. The man was reportedly on a honeymoon with his wife in Andaman, but he allegedly assaulted his wife and also tried to strangle the woman, as per the reports. Read here to know more.
UP Man Assaults During Honeymoon Over Periods
According to an India Today report, a man assaulted his wife during their honeymoon in Andaman. The woman hails from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, while the man is from Delhi. Reportedly, the complaint was filed by the woman’s mother and sister, in which they alleged that she was assaulted during their honeymoon in Andaman and Nicobar Islands simply because she got her periods. The FIR further says that the man kicked, punched and even tried to strangle her after getting annoyed over her periods, and it was hotel staff who interfered after hearing the woman scream and shout.
However, the complaint further lists that the woman was also harassed for dowry, and the demands that the woman’s in-laws made before their wedding in 2023. As per the complaint, she was also tortured, taunted and harassed over dowry demands. Reports also suggest that the woman claimed she was thrown out of her in-laws’ house just a few days after their wedding. Police have reportedly started an investigation and will take further action depending on the evidence collected.
This level of inhumanity that women continue to face is absolutely shameful. A woman getting assaulted for getting her period, something that is natural. That’s how low some men can stoop now? Dowry harassment continues to persist in society, and we can already see the level of crimes that are happening around it. When will these crimes stop? Will it ever?
