Shark Tank’s Vineeta Singh Recalls Her Worst Initial Days In Mumbai On A Salary Of Rs 10,000

Everyone’s first day in a new city is filled with a mix of anxious thoughts, loneliness and some excitement. I still remember the time when I moved to Mumbai. Having grown up dreaming about the city, the moment was extremely special, but the pressure of paying my own bills was no less than a nightmare. Well fantasy aside, reality kicks you hard. From paying bills, and cooking to trying to reach your office through the traffic, there’s so much that one needs to train for. And like most of us Shark Tank India fame, Vineeta Singh also experienced her share of struggles, when she moved to Mumbai for the first time.

In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Singh mentioned how coming from Delhi to Mumbai was a cultural switch that she felt. Besides missing broader roads and only a month-long monsoon back in Delhi, she came to Mumbai with a salary of just rupees 10,000. After completing her graduation at the age of 23, Singh shifted to her dream city, in quest of work. Describing her experience, she mentioned how her timing was wrong since she was welcomed by the heavy Bombay rains in July. Facing everyday rejections from rickshaw drivers, and dodging the seepage was quite tough.

She mentions the time was hard for her, since she wanted to live independently and figure out her rent on a salary of Rs 10,000. Later the amount escalated to Rs 50,000, which felt like a luxury to her. Now the owner of Sugar Cosmetics, Singh also spoke about her initials days in Mumbai. Her road to falling in love with the city was through the amazing people of Mumbai and the sense of safety she felt on the roads at night, which was so unlike in Delhi. She said she fell in love with the city because of its people. Drawing a parallel with the life of an entrepreneur, she mentioned even Mumbai never slows down. She also said that the city is the best to build a business and the entrepreneur in you.
