Renuka Chowdhury Calls PM Modi ‘Classless Megalomanic’ For 2019 Surpanakha Comment, To File Defamation Case

During the 2018 Parliamentary session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made reference to Ramayan while addressing Congres leader, Renuka Chowdhury. Looks like she is holding a grudge about this, and has decided to file a defamation case against PM Modi for allegedly comparing her to Surpanakha from Ramayan. She took to her Twitter handle on March 23, 2023, to announce this major news, and also shared the clip for people’s reference.

Sharing the clip from the session where this incident took place, Renuka Chowdhury wrote in the caption that she will file a defamation case against PM Narendra Modi for calling her Surpanakha in front of the entire Parliament. She also went ahead to say that PM Modi is a ‘classless megalomanic’. Furthermore, she went ahead to write that she wants to how fast track courts will now act.

If you do not remember what happened during this session, let me jog your memory. The Parliamentary session was going on and PM Modi was in the middle of his speech. And right at this moment, Renuka Chowdhury laughed out loudly and interrupted Modi’s speech. Former Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu asked Renuka Chowdhury to behave. Here’s when Modiji said that he should not interrupt her as he was getting to hear this sort of laughter after Ramayana. It was then assumed by all present that PM Modi was referring to Renuka as Surpanakha from Ramayana even though he did not name-call her.

Renuka Chowdhury was heavily trolled after Modi’s comment about her. Even after her announcement to file a defamation case, people on Twitter have gone on to make fun of her for assuming that PM Modi called her Surpanakha when he did not say that name.

Well, speaking of defamation cases against PM Modi, Rahul Gandhi lost his after he said in an election rally that all thieves have their surnames as Modi. BJP MLA and former Gujarat minister Purnesh Modi, had filed a case against him saying that his comment defames all those who have this surname. Rahul Gandhi has been proven guilty of this charge and been sentenced to five years in jail. But the court has granted him 30 days bail.
