Haryana Female Athletes Say Bathrooms In Their Sports Meet Accommodation Had No Lights Or Roof. The Is Appalling!

It is very recently that people and the government have not just acknowledged female athletes but also empowered them. However, when it comes to the conditions that they practise in or the basic facilities they need, things are still the same if not worse. Just take the recent example of the female athletes and their teachers from Kurukshetra who came out and spoke about the poor arrangements and lack of basic amenities at the place they stayed when they went to take part in a state-level sports meet at Rewari.

On Thursday, thirty-three female athletes and their three teachers from Kurukshetra complained that the place where they stayed at night when they had gone to Rewari for a state-level sports meet, did not have basic amenities and poor arrangements were made.

As per reports, on Wednesday, the female athletes along with their teachers were accommodated at a boys’ school where the toilets and bathrooms did not have proper roofs nor did they have adequate lights.

One of the female athletes, Bhavya, who is a fencing player, said, “The organisers shifted our venue and asked us to stay at a private boys’ school. There was no light and roof in the washrooms. We didn’t even bathe in the morning and went directly to Rao Tula Ram stadium”.

Another female athlete, Rishika, pointed out how the administration did not even provide them with transportation, and had to reach the stadium on foot. She further said that the toilets were dirty with garbage strewn around. She went on to question, “We are dreaming to represent India at international level, but is it poss to reach there if we are provided such facilities?”

Geeta Rani, who is a sports teacher and also the Kurukshetra team in-charge, said that after the experience the thirty-three female athletes and their teachers had, she has written to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar about the poor arrangements and the lack of back facilities.

After this experience, Naseeb Singh, the Rewari district education officer (DEO), said that the female athletes along with their teachers have been shifted to another venue where all the facilities are available. He further added that the deputy commissioner directed them to make all the necessary arrangements for them.

It really is sad to see the struggle and things female athletes have to put up with to achieve their dream and represent India on a global level.
