Report Claims Nearly 2.6 Million Women In Pakistan Are Deprived Of National IDs. Without IDs, There’s No Proof That They Even Exist!

Why do some countries treat their female citizens like they no do not matter at all? And this is not an exaggeration because there are tons of news every day about women going through a series of oppression by the ruling government. Well, even to consider them as a country’s citizens there are basic protocols that need to follow but even that is not happening for women. Recently, it came to light that approximately 2.6 women in a province of Pakistan do not possess an identity card, and just imagine how much they must have been losing without having any proof of their existence?

This shocking news was revealed by an NGO, Trust For Democratic Education And Society. A survey on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a province in Pakistan showed that nearly 2.6 million women did not have a proper identification card on them, which should have been provided by the government. And because of this negligence by the government, it is the women who suffer, as they will be denied participation in any of the national affairs. Apart from that, there are many things that women without a national identity will be deprived of. For the starter, they will not enjoy the basic rights as a citizen, like health facilities or any benefits from the government.

The reports also say that some women’s identity cards are present only for their husbands to take benefits. Such men do not “allow” their wives to willingly have a national identity card or even have a voice of their own.

This news is very disturbing. We wonder what role is the government playing here to tackle such issues of women. Are they even considering giving women an identity of their own, that will give them the confidence to live with dignity? And why do men display their power by suppressing the opinions and voice of a woman? Why do they believe that they own a woman after marriage and she no longer has a life of her own? Well, everything depends on how progressive a society becomes with time, the ones that lag end up making women their only victims!
