This UP Woman Carried Her Husband’s Dead Body In An E-Rickshaw Because She Couldn’t Afford An Ambulances

This pandemic has changed our lives in profound ways. It’s like living in a dystopian world. Sure, it’s easy to tune into the news, read reports and tweets but the reality of the people who are infected with the coronavirus is worse than our worst nightmare. The surging numbers that you see on your screen are actually people and families struggling to survive. These are dire circumstances and we are severely lacking in resources and infrastructure to cope with them. Every day, there are new disheartening stories of people succumbing to this deadly virus. Today, we have one from UP’s Firozabad that will bring you to tears. You see, this woman was forced to carry her husband’s dead body in an e-rickshaw because she could afford the exorbitant fees of an ambulance. This is devastating.

This woman from UP’s Firozabad was left with no choice but to carry the corpse of her husband, who died of COVID 19, in an e-rickshaw because she could not afford an ambulance. Her son claimed that he was unable to access any form of medical treatment for his father. Reportedly, there were no hospital beds available and even COVID facilities turned him down. Hence, the family had no choice but to carry the man’s dead body back home in an e-rickshaw since ambulances were charging an exorbitant amount.

This tragic incident came to light when heartbreaking visuals surfaced of the woman holding on to her husband’s dead body in the back of an e-rickshaw. The body seemed to be tied to a rod in the rickshaw to prevent it from falling off.

We can’t even imagine what it must be like for that woman or her son to be put in a position like this. It’s sickening that ambulances are charging such whopping amounts to ferry patients. They are profiting from people’s grief and there is just no excuse for that. So, the next time you ask yourself why we aren’t being able to get ahead of the COVID curve, think about families like this one and how our system failed them.
