Shabana Azmi Gets Cheated By Fraudsters While Ordering Liquor Online, Advises Caution While Doing Online Transactions

Now that we’re all stuck at home, we have very little to no option but to do online shopping. As convenient as these online stores are, they can be equally, if not more, unsafe. I remember a case that was reported a couple of months ago, wherein a senior citizen was cheated by a liquor shop from which he had ordered alcohol worth ₹68000. This case was reported in Mumbai’s JB Nagar, Andheri police station. And if you think that this is the only time it happened, well guess what? That’s most definitely not the case. Even Bollywood actors like Shabana Azmi aren’t exempt from such frauds!

Recently, in a tweet, the 70-year-old veteran Bollywood actor accused liquor store Living Liquidz for allegedly taking the amount and then not delivering what she ordered. She also revealed how the store worker stopped taking her calls after a point and she was duped. As a matter of fact, the Living Liquidz app usually allows customers to place their order and pay for it upon delivery.

Even though Azmi did not reveal the bill amount, she went ahead and shared the bank account number and other details of the platform. In her tweet she wrote, “BEWARE I have been cheated by them. #Living Liquidz I paid upfront and when the ordered item didn’t turn up they stopped picking up my calls!”

Those following the Bollywood actor asked her to file a police report to bring the fraudsters to the fore. Mumbai Police themselves have been warning the citizens of such cyber frauds that have increased during the pandemic. In an attempt to ensure safety, Mumbai Police have asked those who are ordering online to check and verify the phone numbers as well as other details from trusted websites/apps before they make any payments.

In a later tweet, Shabana Azmi clarified that she was duped by some fraudsters pretending to be the liquor store and not the chain store itself.

As much as this is a good precautionary measure that ensures a level of safety, there is no denying that further steps need to be taken by the police authorities to put an end to this. There needs to be a system that needs to be kept in place to ensure that the cyber fraudsters are caught and given appropriate punishment for the same.
