Mumbai Woman Who Tried Returning A Dress Online, Duped Of 2 Lakh Rupees By Fraudsters

As much as I enjoy throwing myself into retail therapy whenever anything happens to me – good, bad or sometimes even average- there are a few thoughts that tend to hold me back. Like an insufficient bank balance. But even if I do have the monies, I want to ensure that everything I buy is worth my money.  And the worrying thing there is always runs a possibility of me being conned by those internet scammers, who hack your card details and drain your account.

As is what happened with a woman in Mumbai, who lost 2 lakh rupees while she was trying to return a dress online. Online shoppers, brace yourself for this horror story.

As it turns out, the victim, who has been identified as a 40-year-old woman, had purchased a dress from an online website that ended up not being quite what she wanted. Hoping to return that dress back, considering it wasn’t the size that she was hoping it to be, the woman dialled up customer care to help her out.

Little did she know that her call was redirected towards another number which led her talking to the fraudsters without her even realising it. While she was speaking to them, in a very sly approach, the fraudsters lured her into telling them her card details, all under the pretext of helping her, and got the necessary information that they needed.

With her details in hand, they drained the woman’s account of a whopping 2 lakh rupees and just like that, exchanging that single dress turned out to be the most expensive mistake of her life. As per a report shared by Times of India, the woman went ahead to file a complaint with the police at the Kandivli police station.

This is not the first case where a woman was conned by such fraudsters, and the fact that the lengths these people would go to to dupe people off is only increasing, online shopping is becoming more and more dangerous.
