A New Instagram Instagram Might Help Users To Control Their Screen Time. I’m Here For It.

Do you remember that a few months ago a research/study conducted by Facebook (or shall we say, Meta) showed exactly how addictive its apps are for the users and how toxic it is, especially for women? Well, after several media reports and Facebook’s own research, Instagram has announced that they are trying out a new feature called Take a Break. According to the company, this feature will help users to control their screen time and help with their app addiction.

Yep, this new feature by Instagram was announced by the company’s head Adam Mosseri and was launched in order to prevent Instagram addiction. According to the reports, this feature will allow the user to take a brief break after spending a period of time on the app.

I mean, Instagram with its neverending reels and numerous stories can be quite addictive for most users, especially women who find comfort on social media. And so I believe this feature to be quite useful for those who want to deal with their addiction in a constructive way.

This new Instagram feature will not be enabled by default, and users can always go and turn it on to receive in-app reminders to take a break from Instagram screen time after using it for either 10mins, 20mins, 30mins, etc. To help users understand the feature better, Adam Mosseri posted a video regarding the workings of this feature on his Twitter, where he said that the feature was developed keeping in mind a “broader effort to try and give people more control over their experience of Instagram.” The feature is currently in the testing phase and if everything works out, then they will soon make it available for all the users.

I, for one, am not sure how far this feature will work, but I’m glad that such steps and initiatives are taken by social media platforms to ensure that the users do not get too addicted to these platforms. I sincerely hope that this feature works out for Instagram and more and more users use it.
