Minor Covid Orphan Gets Legal Notice By LIC To Repay Loan Of Rs 29L Taken By Father. Has The World Become This Unempathetic?

The second wave of COVID-19 was far deadlier than the first with the death toll rising by tenfold every day. A lot of people lost their relatives, family and friends and many children were left orphaned even. It is beyond imagination how these kids would be dealing with this trauma while also trying to move on in their lives. One such Covid orphan from Madhya Pradesh, Vanisha Pathak, who lives with her younger brother was served legal notice by Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) asking her to repay the loan her father had taken.

Covid Orphan Asked To Repay Loan

As per a report by The Economic Times, Vanisha Pathak’s father, Jeetendra Pathak, had taken a home loan of Rs 29 lakh from LIC. But both her mother and father passed away in the second COVID-19 wave leaving Vanisha and her brother orphaned. After her father passed away, she began receiving legal notices from LIC to repay the loan. As per LIC’s policy, all her father’s savings and commissions have been blocked because Vanisha is a minor and will only be able to access them after she turns 18. She has written to the LIC office to give her time to repay the loans as she is a minor but she has not heard from them.

This news has reached Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman who tweeted asking the Department of Financial Services and LIC to look into the matter. She also asked to be updated on the current scenario of the situation.

After her parents’ death, 17-year-old Vanisha Pathak also scored 99.8% in her Class X. As per a report by Quint, she and her brother are currently living with their maternal uncle Ashok Sharma. He has said that they are hoping the loan will be waivered but there has been no response from LIC yet.
