In UP, Two Men Burned A Woman’s Eyes With A Hot Knife After Failing To Sexually Assault Her
When you open the newspaper or scroll through news portals and skim through the headlines, you never think about how violence against women is slowly growing into a national problem? Or do you just read about it, be appalled at the gruesome crime for 20 minutes and all forget about it? Most people do the latter and that’s a problem. We are so desensitized to the torture that women are enduring on a daily basis. It’s easier to turn a blind eye than face the cruel reality but that isn’t helping anyone. In fact, it’s enabling criminals. Especially in states like UP where women are raped and murdered at the drop of a hat.
The most recent incident that has come to light from UP will leave you stunned. After failing to rape a woman, two men burned her eyes with a hot knife. This shocking incident happened in the Lalitpur district of UP on 21 July. The woman runs a vegetable stall and was closing up with these two men attempting to assault her. Everything about this case is deeply disturbing.

In her police complaint, the woman said that when these two men attempted to sexually assault her, she beat them up with her slippers. Instead of leaving her alone after the beating, the two men heated a knife with their lighter and burned her eyes. They felt insulted that she hit them with her slippers. After burning her, she started thrashing her but fled the scene when they heard police sirens. However, the police were not aware of the incident and hence, didn’t come to the woman’s rescue. The woman was found the next morning by her sister-in-law. She was badly injured and rushed to the hospital.
Reportedly, the woman was attacked by these two men three months ago as well. They are well known in that area for their criminal activities. However, three months ago, the authorities did not take any action against them. Obviously, the authorities are now defending themselves. Lalitpur, UP, Additional Superintendent of Police Girjesh Kumar said that the victim had earlier complained but it was only for verbal abuse. He also said that the authorities had booked them at that time and the woman is changing her story now.
The fact that the police are defending themselves by trying to prove a woman, who has just been through such trauma, wrong is deeply concerning. We hope that these two men are caught and jailed.
