Confused About When To Take Covid-19 Vaccination During Pregnancy? Read On

After the deadly second wave of the pandemic, just taking precautions is not enough. We need to go ahead and take vaccination so that we can fight Covid-19 and help curb the spread. A lot of people have been spreading myths and misinformation on social media about the vaccination drive that is being taken on on a urgent basis throughout the country. But the fact still remains that taking up the vaccination against Covid-19 is of utmost importance. Especially for pregnant women. With the government announcing that pregnant women can take vaccination there is a sense of hope that has been ignited for all the soon-to-be parents. And it’s absolutely safe. Read about that here.

A week ago, the government finally announced that pregnant women will be allowed to take vaccination against Covid-19.India was one of the last few countries to open up the drive to pregnant and lactating women. The decision was backed by the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI) that believes that the Covid-19 vaccinations are safe for pregnant women.

In fact,  as per experts, the Covid-19 vaccination doesn’t contain any live viruses, which means that there is no chance that the woman or the unborn child to catch covid-19 from the vaccination itself.  Also, the transmission during pregnancy and or while breastfeeding is negligible which further ensures the safety of both – the soon-to-be mother and the child.

Most experts and gynaecologists believe that pregnant women should take the vaccine against Covid-19 at the earliest since they are at higher risk of exposure. The gynaecologists state that the Covid-19 vaccination jab can be taken at any point during the pregnancy. Having said that, some doctors also do recommend the women get vaccinated during their second trimester.

And even though a pregnant woman can take the Covid-19 vaccine whenever during the pregnancy it is always recommended to consult your gynaecologist before the jab and the precautions to be taken after it. Especially if the pregnant woman has co-morbidities. More importantly, women with co-morbidities are urged to act fast and take the vaccination against Covid-19 at the earliest after consultation with a doctor.

These are scary times. Taking the necessary precautions – like staying at home, double masking, sanitizing your house and self, etc. – along with taking the Covid-19 vaccination is of utmost importance.
