5 Reasons Taking The Covid 19 Vaccine Is Safe For Pregnant Women Or Women Looking To Get Pregnant

Recently, the Union Ministry, based on the recommendations of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI) – opened up vaccination for  pregnant women, thereby making the risks of being exposed to the disease relatively lower. The decision empowers pregnant women to make an informed decision after consultation with their gynaecologists. In fact, most gynaecologists across the country have strongly recommended vaccination of pregnant women at any point during the nine months.

However, vaccine hesitancy continues to be a hiccup that we have to overcome. Pregnant women’s concerns regarding the vaccines are various and here are 5 reason why the vaccine is entirely safe.

  1. The vaccines do not affect fertility. If you’re trying to conceive, then taking vaccine won’t be an issue. Both husband and wife can take the same or different Govid-19 vaccines and it will not affect the chance to have a baby.
  2. It is also safe for those women who are planning their pregnancy through assisted methods. These women can take vaccination against Covid-19 and then continue with their treatment. The vaccine does not interfere with the process.
  3. The Covid-19 vaccine does not contain any live viruses. This means that the vaccination doesn’t have any sort of biological complications that may lead to Covid in the mother and or the unborn baby. However, there are chances of clotting with certain vaccine and it is recommended that pregnant women have a discussion at length with their doctors about the potential risk.
  4. Since it contains no live viruses the chances of it getting transmitted during pregnancy or through breast milk is negligible. The Covid-19 vaccination does not affect the unborn child in any way.
  5. The immunity of a pregnant woman is compromised and the risk of getting infected with Covid-19 is higher. And taking a vaccine creates antibodies that help your immune system to fight against the disease. This ensures safety for not only pregnant women but also their unborn children. In fact, studies suggest that a vaccinated pregnant mother might be able to pass on antibodies to her child.

For all the pregnant women and new parents out there, get in touch with your gynaecologists and take the necessary precautions before you go ahead and take your vaccination against Covid-19.
