Recently, Chetan Bhagat came under fire for making derogatory remarks against Uorfi Javed. The author said that young boys these days are distracted by Urofi Javed’s clothes and follow her instead of focusing on their lives. In response, Uorfi Javed called out the author for slut-shaming her and promoting rape culture. And let’s be honest, Uorfi’s clothes might be out of the box but they’re far from distracting. In fact, there are several other things in this world that are much more distracting. Since people have been calling Uorfi Javed’s sartorial choices a “distraction”, we thought it’s important to give people a reality check. So, here’s a list of all the things that are much more distracting than Uorfi Javed’s clothes.
1. Patriarchy
The everyday casual sexism and discrimination against women can be kaafi distracting. How is one to focus on anything when the world around us is busy treating women like trash while forcing men to fit into gender stereotypes, for the sake of patriarchy? How about we try focusing on how women in our patriarchal society aren’t “allowed” to wear what they want instead of blaming Uorfi Javed for wearing whatever she wants?
2. Rape Culture
Our society has been letting bad behaviour slide by saying “boys will be boys” and “garam khoon hai” and blaming women for simply existing is distracting. All the victim-blaming, slut-shaming and trivializing rape and objectification of women is much much more distracting as opposed to Uorfi Javed’s choice of clothing. Maybe we should focus on acknowledging sexual violence which makes it tough for us women to focus on feeling protected in our society.
3. Hustle Culture
As women, we have to constantly prove ourselves and our worth and for that, we must hustle. And TBH, this toxic hustle culture is what makes it tough for people to focus on the right things in their lives. Uorfi Javed isn’t even on the list of all the things that are distracting us.
4. Lack Of Jobs
Chetan Bhagat wants boys to focus on getting a good education, applying for jobs and giving interviews instead of being distracted by Uorfi Javed’s clothes but what about unemployment? The lack of jobs in itself is a big distraction. Someone needs to give Chetan a reality check!
5. Gender Pay Gap
Who needs Uorfi Javed’s clothes to be distracted when we have bigger issues like the gender pay gap that make it so much tougher for us women to earn as much as our male counterparts despite doing more than them and proving ourselves again and again? And the last we checked this issue serves as a bigger distraction than the actress and her fashion choices.
6. Pressure To Get Good Marks
Indian society is known to push kids over the edge to get them to get good marks and TBH, this whole pressure of having to get better at education and getting better marks leads to stress that takes up so much space in our minds. Who has the time to worry about Uorfi Javed’s clothes when you’re stressing about getting good marks to prove your worth in society?

7. Slut-Shaming
More than Uorfi Javed’s sartorial choices, we’re busy worrying about her being slut-shamed. She wears what she wants to wear but then it ends with someone or the other slut-shaming her and NGL but we totally get it. We’re also more worried about being slut-shamed ourselves instead of being distracted by Uorfi’s clothes. Moreover, being slut-shamed really affects us and keeps us occupied much more than the actress. Maybe society can stop slut-shaming women because it distracts us!
8. Crime Rate
One in three women across the globe has experienced intimate partner violence and every 11 minutes one girl is killed by intimate partner violence or by a family member and here we are claiming to be distracted by a woman’s clothes. Well, hello, who has the time to worry about Uorfi Javed’s clothes when we’ve got things like women’s safety to worry about? We’re just so much more distracted by having to stress over the crime rate.
9. Toxic Masculinity
In a world where men are drowning in toxic masculinity, we’ve got more things to keep us distracted. Toxic masculinity is taking a toll on women and feminism. Now, what’s more important? Feminism and gender equality and eradicating toxic masculinity or being distracted by a woman’s clothes.
10. Rishtedaars Asking, “Shaadi Kab Karoge?”
The one question that keeps haunting all of us during Shaadi season as well as throughout the year once we hit our mid-20s is “Beta, Shaadi kab karoge?” We’re distracted and busy finding excuses and answers for questions like these. And that’s why we’re not distracted by Uorfi Javed’s clothes.
