In recent events, a fifth-grade English textbook from Odisha has been going viral after it featured lyrics of the famous Bollywood song ‘Nimbooda Nimbooda’ from the 1999 film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. This instantly turned many eyeballs and started a debate about the editorial oversight and control of the quality. The alleged error gained light after pictures of the textbook surfaced online and showed lyrics printed in place of educational material for primary school students.

The alleged error sparked major outrage on the internet about the quality control during the preparations and printing of school textbooks. Education experts and parents have shared their concerns about how such a big mistake could have escaped the eyes of multiple editing stages before reaching students. The controversy has also sparked outrage for stricter proofreading and accountability in educational materials, particularly books meant for younger learners. Multiple screenshots of this reported textbook error have instantly gone viral, with many sharing memes and disbelief over it.

Not just this, the Class 8 Kruti featured lyrics of ‘Rind Posh Maal ‘, a song from the 2000 film Mission Kashmir, as an example of a Kashmir Folk Song. Apart from this, the Odia song ‘Raja Doli’ has been featured in the Class 5 English book and ‘Bumbro Bumbro’ in the Class 3 book, as examples of folk songs have been featured in textbooks.  On one hand, many users started making memes and jokes over the same, while others took this error very seriously and stated that this could undermine confidence in the school education system. This also comes after the SCERT textbooks were under scrutiny for having 1,678 errors found in them.
