Women Of Reddit Share Interesting Ways Of Finding Out How Men Perceive Femininity And Masculinity

I think I got familiar with the concept of toxic masculinity when I was 21 and studied gender theories for the final year of my bachelors. I also understood how fluid femininity and masculinity and despite what we have been raised to believe, there is no set way of expressing either. However, despite knowing this many of us unconsciously tend to abide by certain rules that societal standards have expected us to live up to. I know I have. And while most of us do it unconsciously, many still consciously abide by these notions. As someone who advocates for people’s right to express themselves as they choose to (without abiding by such societal standards), I am very particular about the people around me having the same or similar ideals. And I am even more strict about my partner having the same standards. I have sat on dates multiple times and wondered if the man sitting before me is genuinely someone who sees masculinity and femininity as fluid or is he someone who abides by these sexist norms and sees people through those tainted lenses. Luckily, the women of Reddit have once again come in a clutch as they answer user u/a-bitch-for-lasagna who asked “What is the most discreet and seemingly harmless thing/question you can say to a man, in order to find out how he views women/masculinity etc?” And Redditors had a lot to say.

If this doesn’t scream a warped outlook on femininity and women, I don’t know what does.

Many of these were things that I never thought of. But yes, a partner (or anyone in your life) having and enforcing archaic notions of feminity and masculinity are red flags. No one should have to be forced into a relationship where they aren’t free to be who they are.
