3 Men In Vijayawada Have Been Arrested For Raping A Mentally Challenged Woman For More Than 20 Hours. This Is Terrible
There’s not even a single day when news of crime against women skip the bulletin. Every day we wake up to some horrifying tales of women either being raped, tortured, harassed or murdered and we only hope the number reduces with time. But an unfortunate event in Vijayawada has us losing faith in humanity again.
According to some latest reports, a mentally challenged, 23-year-old woman was gang-raped by three men in Vijayawada’s Government General Hospital. As per the police, the culprits have been identified as workers of fogging agency, hired by the hospital. The 23-year-old was brought to the hospital by one of the accused men–Dara Srikanth, on April 19, 2022. After raping her, Dara locked her up in a tiny, dark room of the hospital, followed by which two other men from the agency sexually assaulted her for more than 20 hours. The incident unravelled when the victim arrived home.

While parents of the young girl had already filed a report of her missing, Inspector SI Srinivas and Hanish Kumar were suspended for not taking quick action on their complaint. The three suspects are now in police custody, but the case has now become a tool for political play between the ruling YSR Congress and the opposition Telugu Desam in the region, for the irresponsible negligence by the police. Moreover, CM Reddy also declared to provide a compensation of Rs 10 Lakh to the victim, who was immediately shifted to a hospital for care and treatment.
This case exhibits the irresponsible behaviour of those in power, and the world being a witness to another inhuman incident. Are we progressing any further? Well, the answer to which is yet to unfold.
