Tribal Woman Thrashed In Gujarat, 4 Arrested After Video Goes Viral

One of the most vulnerable sectors of society are the tribes – especially the tribal women. More often than not they are not even considered to be humans and are treated worse than animals. They are abused, offended, violated, etc. because they belong to the tribes and are women. Take the most recent example from Gujarat, where a tribal woman is thrashed on the road while the others are just standing and looking at it happen.

Recently, a video went viral on the internet, where a 50-year-old tribal woman is beaten up and thrashed with a stick by one of her own relatives. And he thrashed her because she refused to snap relationships with another family in Dahod district, Gujarat.

In the video, a man is seen beating and thrashing a woman that is lying down alongside the road in the village. What is even more infuriating, is the fact that there are men and women who are just watching that man thrash the tribal woman and are not doing anything about it. The video also shows that the man later comes and drags the thrashed tribal woman to the other side of the road near a cattle shed.

When the Dahod police learned about the video, they immediately started their investigation. Their initial investigation showed that the man had thrashed the tribal woman on Monday and the location of the crime was at Sagdapada village in Fatepura taluka of the Dahod district.

Dahod SP Hitesh Joysar said that the man thrashed a tribal village that belonged to the Sagdapada village. He said, “The men, including the one who was hitting her, seen in the video are her relatives. They were angry as the woman did not cut her relations with women from another family, with whom they are having a long-standing dispute. We have arrested all the four accused on the charges of assault and criminal intimidation.” The tribal woman was later discharged from the hospital after the completion of her treatment.

According to Dahod SP Hitesh Jyosar, such incidents of men thrashing tribal women have taken place in the past as well and which is why to spread awareness about stopping the violence against women, they’ve put up hoardings over 100 places. Not only that, but they’ve also asked theater artists to write plays and come up with performances that help in spreading awareness.

Honestly, tribal women have always been at the bottom of the societal hierarchy. They’ve been mentally abused, thrashed, raped, killed, etc. by all classes of society and that makes them the most vulnerable. We as a society need to stop this from happening. We need to spread awareness about harming tribal women in any form. It is only then that we can empower these women to come on their own and make a difference.
