The Taliban Has Decreed Men Will Represent Women At The Afghan Unity Debate. Dudes, That’s Not Unity!

Afghanistan’s leaders, The Taliban, have decided to have a national unity debate. For the same, they invited around 3,000 tribal leaders, religious and other elders from across the country. The meeting is set to take place on Thursday in Kabul, where officials will get together and discuss matters about national unity. But, are female delegates invited to this meeting based on ‘unity’? Guess the answer.

Yep, it’s a massive NOPE.

Recent declarations by The Taliban have further thrown light on the fact that the session along with being the first of its kind, will be a male-only session and no women will be allowed. Instead, the men itself will represent women and their point of view in the public light. Like they’ve been so fantastically doung for millennia. That’s an HR lesson right there.

This is seen as a trial towards promoting domestic legitimacy for the ruling group so that it can secure international recognition.

The Taliban seized power from the Afghan government last August. This occurred overnight when the United States withdrew the remaining troops from the country after governing it for almost 20 years of military intervention. They still haven’t been able to grasp international attention to the point of legitimacy which is visibly, a very sore spot for the Taliban Leader at this point.

Taliban Acting Deputy Prime Minister Abdul Salam Hanafi said, “The prominent university professors, national businessmen and influential personalities would also attend the gathering, saying an Islamic system of governance and economics, as well as social issues facing Afghanistan, would be discussed. This will be a positive step for stability in Afghanistan and strengthening national unity.”

What About The Women And Their Voices?

When the acting Deputy Prime Minister Abdul Salam Hanafi was questioned about inviting female delegates and women’s rights, he answered with a smile on his face, without any hesitation as he mentioned the fact that the Taliban respects these women a lot. He went on to add that these women are their sisters and mothers and therefore, their voice is appreciated.

Taliban holds firmly to the belief that the fact that their sons and brothers are honourably invited to the gathering, it means that they are also involved, in a way, in the gathering. They strongly believe that these men are capable enough to represent the women and their voices on this public podium.

Taliban has a strong history of neglecting the women of the nation and stripping them of their basic human rights. They are known to have been treating women as ‘second-class citizens’ and this decree will also be seen as an addition to this list of violations against women. I mean, how can a nation celebrate unity without diversity? How can men get together and decide the fate of a nation without women and other members of the LGBTQIA+ community? This decision makes no sense on a global scale, in the modern world.
