A Study Reveals That Women Are More Likely To Die After Heart Attack Than Men. This Is Scary!

As a woman, I can assure you that sometimes I don’t like the fact that I’m born as a woman in this world. However, I’m not saying that I wish I was as a man, that’s not even the last thing I would wish for, all I’m trying to say is that being a woman is very complicated and difficult. And now, I just found out that women are more likely to die after a heart attack than men. Okay, this is scary!

When we think that we have finally understood everything about our bodies, something new drops out of nowhere which makes us clueless all over again. The same thing happened when a recent study showed that women are more likely to die from heart attack death than men because they don’t get the proper treatment for the cardiogenic shock on time. Cardiogenic shock is usually caused by a large heart attack and it is basically a life-threatening condition in which the heart suddenly stops pumping enough blood to supply the organs in the body with the required level of oxygen. The problem is that women don’t show specific symptoms and if they show any symptoms at all, it’s difficult to connect them to heart attack and hence, there’s a delay in the diagnosis and treatment.

In the study, the researchers found out that 19% of women and 26% of men received mechanical circulatory support. The study further revealed that 83% of women and 88% of men were treated with minimally invasive or surgical procedures to restore blood flow to blocked arteries while 67% of women and 82% of men received mechanical ventilation. The results were presented at ESC Acute CardioVascular Care 2022, as per reports.

“The findings indicate that greater awareness among health professionals that women have heart attacks and may develop cardiogenic shock could be a step towards equitable management and outcomes,” said Dr Sarah Holle who is a representative from the research team.
