Karnataka Professor Resigns After Asked To Remove Hijab Before Entering College, Writes Letter Condemning “Undemocratic Act”

The hijab row in Karnataka which started from one college not allowing students to enter the college while wearing burqas has become a controversial topic and seem like it getting more intense day by day. Many people have come forward to voice their opinion regarding the issue. And recently, a professor in Karnataka resign from her job after she was asked to remove her hijab before entering college.

Earlier, the Karnataka High Court had directed that no religious garments will be worn inside the college campus till the matter is pending in the court during a hearing. And seems like all the faculty members will have to follow the rule as well. Recently, an English Professor named Chandini resigned from her job citing self-respect after being to take off her hijab while entering the college premises. According to the reports, the professor works at the Jain PU College in Tumakuru, she mentioned that she is been teaching at the college for nearly three years but it was for the first time that she was asked to remove her hijab. “I have been working at Jain PU college for the last three years. I haven’t faced any issues so far. But yesterday, the principal told me that I can’t wear hijab or any religious symbol while teaching. But I have taught for the last three years wearing hijab. This new decision is a hit to my self-respect. That’s why I have decided to resign,” Chandini told the media. However, the principal of the college KT Manjunath has denied all the accusations.

The whole controversy started last year when a few Muslim students were not allowed to attend class wearing the hijab and headscarves. After that, there’s a constant communal tension in the schools and colleges of Karnataka and seems like it’s not going to end anytime soon.
