Karnataka Hijab Row: BJP MP Pragya Thakur Says Women Don’t Need To Wear Hijab In India

In the past few weeks, the controversy about the hijab row in Karnataka has shaken the country awake. It seems as though everyone has an opinion on it. From actors to politicians, many have spoken about the controversy. In fact, some have made such ridiculous statements that I can’t even begin to fathom. One of the recent examples of it is when BJP MP Pragya Thakur, who is out on bail, shared her two thoughts on it. She said that women don’t need to wear hijabs in India and it is only those women who are unsafe in their house who wear hijabs. Really?

BJP MP Pragya Thakur, who is out on bail as she is a key accused in the Malegaon blasts terror case, made controversial statements stating that only women who are not safe in their houses need to wear a hijab and that there is no need for women in India to wear one.

BJP MP Pragya Thakur, who has a history of making controversial and incendiary comments, said, “No need to wear hijab anywhere. People who are not safe in their houses wear hijab. You have a madrasa. If you wear hijab there we have nothing to do… outside, where there is ‘Hindu samaj’, they are not required…”

Pragya Thakur while at an organised event at a temple in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh said, “Hijab is purdah. Purdah should be (used) against those who see you with evil eyes. But it is certain Hindus don’t see them with evil eyes as they worship women.”

The worst part about this is the fact the students are suffering the most in all of this. I hate how the politicians have turned all of this into an agenda that they want to propagate. I wonder when all of this will end.
