NRI Siblings Return To India After 11 Years To Repay Kindness Shown By Peanut Vendor

I think we all grew up with the phrase “honesty is the best policy.” However, I feel that the older we grow, the less we tend to follow that. The practicality of life and subtle nuances of our daily interactions get us to indulge in white lies and deception quite a bit. However, there are a few who are able to maintain childlike innocence and honesty and 2 of them are these NRI siblings who came back to India almost 11 years later to repay a peanut vendor they weren’t able to pay all those years ago.

NRI siblings Nemani Pranav and his sister Suchitha visited the U Kothapalli beach in Andhra Pradesh with their father, Mohan in 2010. They bought some peanuts from a vendor named Sattaiah and during the payment, Mohan realised he did not have any money on him as he had forgotten his wallet. The vendor, Sattaiah let them have the peanuts for free and didn’t make a big deal about it. Mohan however promised to repay him and even took his photo. However, as they are NRIs, the family was unable to do so and had to return to the US.

Now almost 11 years later, siblings Nemani and Suchita returned to India and wanted to repay what they owed Sattaiah. Their father, Mohan, was keen on repaying the money too and took aid from their friend Chandrasekhar Reddy who is the MLA of Kakinada City to help trace down the vendor.

The MLA was ready to help and put out a Facebook post to look for Sattaiah. A few from Nagulapalli village came forward and contacted the MLA’s PA to inform him that Sattaiah had passed away. The NRI siblings at that point decided to give the family a sum of ₹25,000, according to reports

Stories of genuine humanity like these make my heart full. Considering how long it had been since they met Sattaiah, the NRI sibling had no real obligation to put in all these efforts. However, while they were unable to repay Sattaiah’s kindness, his kindness went a long way in helping his family.
