In Kolkata, A 75-Year-Old Grandmother Hugged The Doctor Who Helped Her Recover From COVID

These are difficult times. And you look for respite. The falling number of COVID cases is a cause for celebration. I have been religiously following the numbers in Maharashtra and Mumbai and every time the caseload comes down, I feel like there’s light at the end of the tunnel. Because honestly, things were looking very grim and bleak and our mental health was in shambles. So every piece of good news needs to be celebrated. A doctor dancing in a COVID ward to make patients feel better? Let’s talk about it. Let’s amplify that also. So when we saw this picture of an elderly woman who had recently overcome COVID, we want to talk about that too.

The picture that has now gone viral was taken at Calcutta Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. It was shared on social media by Tanmoy Dey, who, from what we gather, was not related to the patient or the doctor in the picture. He wrote the caption in Bengali, saying, “Since the last 10 days, this 75-year-old grandmother who was battling Covid-19 at the Calcutta Medical College recovered and went back home. While going, she hugged a doctor who had also fought against the virus with her and showered love and blessings on her. What can be a more beautiful photo than this? Photos like these provide inspiration against such battles.”

While most PPE kits make recognising a doctor for their good work practically impossible, it is being said that the doctor in this picture is Avisikta Mallick. The post now has almost 2000 shares and is being viewed widely because in these COVID times, we could all use something that looks hopeful.

As expected, the comments on the post are overwhelmingly positive, hailing doctors are heroes in COVID times, saluting their resilience and celebrating this moment of love and happiness. And we think everyone should see this.

Seen it all?

We’ve got more!
