Indian Girl Got Rewarded 22 Lakhs By Microsoft For Spotting A Bug In Its System. What A Genius!

When it comes to women in tech, the percentage is very small. I mean, most of the time, girls from a young age are never encouraged to explore technology; their curiosity is never catalyzed. Most parents will proudly say they want their daughter to be a doctor or a teacher. Many parents want their sons to be an engineer or an IT professional. In fact, it’s so common for men to assume a woman wouldn’t know tech things. But Aditi Singh is breaking stereotypes and how. She is just a 20-year-old girl from Delhi who is into ethical hacking. Recently, she won a reward of $30,000 (approximately Rs 22 lakh) by Microsoft for finding a bug in its Azure cloud system.

Two months ago, she had found a bug in Facebook and won a prize of $7500 (approximately over Rs 5.5 lakh). She said the bug detected in both these companies was a new kind and wasn’t being looked into. She revealed that these bugs can enable hackers to access internal systems.

“Microsoft has only fixed the bug which I spotted two months back. They have not fixed all of them,” Aditi was quoted by India Today. “I took an interest in ethical hacking when I was preparing for NEET, my medical entrance in Kota. I didn’t get through in medical school but have found bugs in over 40 companies including Facebook, Tiktok, Microsoft, Mozilla, Paytm, Ethereum, HP, among others,” she added.

Aditi is quite a brainy, driven woman and her great work in ethical hacking has scored her appreciation letters from Harvard University, Columbia University, Stanford University, and University of California. Bug bounty hunters are certified professionals who scan systems for bugs that can put security at risk. They bring such bugs to the companies’ notice and get rewarded for the same.

“I was certain I wanted to get into ethical hacking after I reported an OTP bypass bug in TikTok’s Forgot Password section and won a bounty of $1100,” said Aditi.

She is, in fact, self-taught bug bounty hunter who learnt ethical hacking by researching on Google. And that got her such a huge reward from Microsoft! You go, girl!
