Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani Rearrested Soon After His Bail For Allegedly Assaulting A Female Constable
Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani was released on bail on Monday after he was arrested for his tweets on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. But, he was rearrested soon after in a different case and the complaint about it was lodged in the Barpeta district of Assam. Gujarat’s Independent MLA Jignesh Mevani has been accused of molestation and assault by a woman constable while bringing him from Guwahati airport to Kokrajhar. This constable was a part of the team that was bringing him to Kokrajhar.
According to a report by NDTV, the woman constable has said in her complaint that when they were passing through the Barpeta district in Assam, Jignesh Mevani abused her verbally. She also has said that she was pushed by him against a car and he made rude gestures to her as well. The case was filed on April 21 wherein Mevani has been charged with making obscene acts or words in public, voluntarily causing hurt, using criminal force to deter public servants from discharging their duty and outraging modesty.

Earlier, this 41-tear-old politician has opposed his first arrest by saying that it was ‘vendetta politics by the PMO (Prime Minister’s Office)’ and they have done this to ‘tarnish’ his image. He also went on to say that has is been targeted. Mevani further said that it was a ‘conspiracy’ by the Central government. Mr Mevani’s lawyer Angshuman Bora said that the new allegations he has been charged with are ‘atrocious’. He also said that they were not aware of the assault when he was in police custody for three days.
Why wait for him to be granted bail and then rearrest him soon after? This does sound fishy, to be honest.
