January Is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month 2023: Know The Theme And Significance

As women, we need to be ek kadam aage than men in terms of taking care of our bodies. This is because our bodies have uteruses, ovaries, vaginas, fallopian tubes and cervixes and other organs which are all prone to developing diseases. One of the most commonly diagnosed cancers in women remains cervical cancer. In view of the same, January is commemorated to spread awareness about cervical cancer, what its symptoms are, and how can you prevent it. Each year, the WHO organises a theme around the awareness of this disease. Here are more details on this year’s theme and its significance.

Cervical Cancer Awareness Month 2023 theme and significance

The theme of Cervical Cancer Awareness Month 2023 is ‘ending cancer within a few generations’. A teal-coloured ribbon is used to denote the commemoration of this month. Also, the WHO is shedding light on the importance of preventing cervical cancer by getting the HPV vaccine.

Now, if you are wondering what purpose having an entire month dedicated to spreading awareness serves, let me explain it to you. There are screening camps set up in public places and hospitals for women to get tested and screened for cervical cancer. Through this, if one has symptoms of the said cancer, it can be detected and cured before it worsens. It also urges people to suggest their near and dear ones get screened as well.

The vaccine is expected to be made available in the country by April or May this year. So, ladies, get yourself screened at the nearest cervical cancer screening camp to rule out doubts. There is no need to hesitate to go for a screening or feel shy about getting tested either. You are only saving yourself in time if something in the test turns out positive.
