61-Year-Old Kerala Woman Sells Her Goats And Contributes Towards The CM’s Relief Fund For COVID Aid

Part of my job profile is to scan the internet and pick up the most interesting and relevant stories. While doing that though, every day, I come across stories about the COVID pandemic that leaves me leaving hopeless and helpless. People dying, black fungus cases surging, shortage of vaccines and even gross mistreatment of COVID positive patients. All this negativity can get extremely overwhelming. However, if it wasn’t for people keeping all their differences aside and just helping each other, we would’ve been in a much worse place. On that note, today we are talking about this Kerala woman who is an inspiration to us all. She donated to the chief minister’s relief fund and helped out the underprivileged by selling her goats. It’s acts of selflessness like these that are going to get us through these dark times.

61-year-old Subaida from Kollam, Kerala, has made headlines by donating to the CMDRF (Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund). She sold her goats to help her state’s crowdfunding for vaccines and if that wasn’t enough, she also donated groceries and other essentials to underprivileged people.

Subaida takes care of her three-member family. She runs a tea stall located beside her home near the Kollam Port Office at Kochupilamoodu, Kerala. To make some extra money though, Subaida has also been raising goats. Last year, when the pandemic hit, she sold two of her 20 goats and donated the money to the CMDRF. This year Subaida sold another four goats and not only donated to the CMDRF as part of the crowdfunding ‘vaccine challenge’, started by Keralites on Social Media but also bought rice and other essential products and distributed them amongst the poor.

For her extraordinary contribution, Subaida was invited to the new Kerala CM’s swearing in ceremony. Talking about that she said, “On Tuesday, I received an envelope with a VVIP pass inside it inviting me to attend the CM’s swearing-in function. It came as a huge surprise for me as I was never expecting any such invitation.”

We too should learn from Subaida and do all we can to help out during this unprecedented crisis. Her selflessness is inspiring!
