5 Inspiring Indian Sportswomen Who Brought Laurels To India In 2018

It’s been a glorious year for Indian sportswomen. They’ve been making us all proud by etching their names in history and bringing up the medal count. Their journey has been anything but easy, for the most part, they get the short straw from accessibility to training, to funding and everything in between. It can’t be easy.  But they’ve only come out victorious and more empowered. Here are a few women, that have given us inspiration

Hima Das

There’s no stopping this energetic 18-year-old.  And the expectations from her are sky high. Given that she has already awed everybody with being the first and only Indian ever to win at the U-20 world championship in Helsinki, and  by breaking the national record for 400m twice in two days, you just know that she’s here to conquer the world of athletics.

PV Sindhu

The ace shuttler reached several finals this year but none of them finished on a high note. But she won’t take no for an answer. Sindhu won her maiden gold medal this year by defeating Nozomi Okuhara in the finals of BWF World tour in China in a match that left us all amazed and in awe, once again. She’s clearly a champion.

Pooja Dhanda

The 24-year-old wrestler bagged a silver this year in the Commonwealth games. She believes she is only getting started, and she has her sights set on the upcoming Olympic games now. We’re rooting for you, girl!

Dipika Pallikal

This squash champion not only created ripples by winning a silver and bronze at the Asian games, but also won our hearts as well. She ensured that the prize money for boys and girls would be equal, and she stood her ground, until it was made official.

Vinesh Phogat

A ferocious wrestler, she did us all proud by bringing back the first gold medal to be awarded to an Indian woman wrestler. She has been creating her place in history, one medal at a time. We are sure this is just the beginning.
