25-Year-Old Ayesha Aziz From Kashmir Has Become India’s Youngest Female Pilot. At 25, We Were So Lost!

This year, I will turn 25 years old. Don’t let the number fool you. I still sometimes feel and act as I’ve just turned 18. You know, as I trip and stumble through my mid-twenties, I have picked up on a few things. To begin with, I learned that I will not be able to meet everyone’s expectations of me and hence, I just need to be able to meet my own. Having said that, there are a lot of people who inspire me to set my goals and actually step out of my comfort zone to achieve them. One of those people is India’s youngest pilot, Ayesha Aziz. At 25, she has reached heights, literally, that most people only dream of.

Hailing from Kashmir, Ayesha Aziz has become India’s youngest female pilot. She has become a beacon of empowerment for women all over the country. At the tender age of 15, while most of us were struggling under the pressure of board exams, Ayesha obtained her pilot’s licence. At 16, she underwent training to fly the MIG-29 jet at Russia’s Sokol airbase. She was flying jets when I didn’t know the difference between the clutch and the accelerator in my car. It’s nearly impossibly to not be completely awe-struck by her and her story.

In 2017, Ayesha Aziz graduated from the Bombay Flying Club and got her commercial pilot licence. Talking about why she chose this field, she told ANI that her love of travelling and her fascination with flying drove her to this decision. She said, “I chose this field because I have loved travelling since a very young age and was very fascinated by flying. One gets to meet so many people. This is why I wanted to be a pilot. It is quite challenging because this is not like a normal 9-5 desk job. There is no fixed pattern and I have to constantly be ready to face new places, different types of weather and meet new people.” Further adding, “In this profession, one’s mental state should be very strong because you’ll be carrying 200 passengers and it is a great responsibility.”

Ayesha went on to talk about how her father is her biggest role model. Her parents are her greatest support system and they have backed all her choices and enabled her to achieve all her dreams. She told ANI, “I am very lucky that I have parents who have supported me in everything. Without them, I would not have been able to get to where I am today. I am constantly looking for growth, on a professional and personal level. My father is my greatest role model.”

In a world where parents of 25-year-old girls only prioritize their wedding and focus merely on finding the right man for her, this is a very refreshing change. I really hope more parents learn from this and support their daughters unconditionally.

There is no doubt that Ayesha Aziz is a source of inspiration for us all. However, thanks to all her achievements at such a young age, she has become a beacon of hope and empowerment, especially for Kashmiri women. In the interview, Ayesha talked about how women from the valley have made strides and are doing very well. She said, “I think Kashmiri women are doing very well, especially in education. Every other woman in Kashmir is doing her Masters or her doctorate. People of the Valley are doing great.”

Ayesha Aziz has been inspiring us since she was 15-years-old and continues to do so. We can’t wait to see what more is in store for her!
