The First Metaverse Fashion Week Confirms Screen Wear Is The New Street Wear

While the Earth wasn’t enough for us to thrive in, the metaverse is the new universe we all are willing to be a part of. And as we take closer steps towards the future, the fashion realm is already right up there. After NFT shagun, metaverse weddings, receptions and semi-digital fashion shows, metaverse turned host for its very first fashion week this year. The Metaverse Fashion Week was inaugurated on March 24 and concluded on March 28, 2022. It witnessed a line-up of some of the world’s top game players in the field like– Tommy Hilfiger, Dolce & Gabbana, Roberto Cavalli, Dundas World and more.

In a world where screen wear is soon turning into the new streetwear, fashion industry joined hands with luxury retail, and organised physical shows, pop-ups by designer houses, and offered a platform for the exchange of fresh ideas. With NFT being the key player in the transactions, the sellers offered a mix of NFT wearables and limited physical collection  available at cryptocurrency.

Apart from the digitised environment, fashion week became a medium of display for brands and their latest collections. Helmed by the Virtual real estate platform Decentraland, the line-up of trends received mixed reviews from the invitees. Lacking in user experience, the visual aspect required some more work to be able to live up to the hype it created. Alongside digital runways, the four-day long event also incorporated digital brand stores, replicating the physical ones with their latest line-up wrapped around metaverse models and mannequins. Moreover, close to 1,08,000 unique attendees made it to the virtual event and talked about the many glitches they observed throughout the showcases.

Launching their new collection, based on a variety of themes, Dolce And Gabanna introduced the world to their brand new, Cat-themed designs, Tommy Hilfiger showcased its spring 2022 collection, with Estee Lauder’s night repair solution turning into an NFT wearable (interesting, right?). Some digital wearables relied onto revenge dressing essentials like vibrant catsuits, futuristic bags, textured outfits with chosen fabric options. The runways as constructed in the centre of massive sets delivered a dream-like experience, which at times goes missing during physical shows.

Just like the physical, tiring yet fun fashion weeks, metaverse’s glam week too had multiple after-parties with singer-songwriter Claire Elise Boucher, playing for the attendees.
