Q. How did you and the designer pick your outfit for the showcase? The outfit that you wore, was it something you picked or was it the designer’s call?

Antara Marwah: The outfit was completely designed by Mohit Rai, the founder of Itrh. He was really sweet and he gave me a couple of options for my walk. However, the look that I wore on the ramp was something that I tried at 10 pm, one night before the show. The moment I put it on, it fit perfectly and we just knew that this was it. Honestly speaking, I was a little intimidated to wear the outfit and was not completely convinced but Mohit really encouraged me to live in my Goddess vibe. We added the waist accessory just as something extra.

Q. Walking the ramp while being pregnant could not have been easy with all the practice that it requires. Could you share the challenges that you faced and how you managed to overcome them?

Antara Marwah: I was not at all keen on walking the ramp when Mohit first approached me, I pretty much flaked out. (smiles) But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that I have nothing to lose. Why am I feeling so shy and reserved about this? To be honest, pregnancy isn’t easy, you feel sick, tired, lethargic and just generally uneasy on most days and surely not your best. To have the confidence to walk out in front of so many people in that state, I never thought I could do it. My daughter (Thea) and the thought of doing something selfishly for myself finally pushed me to go ahead with this.

Q. Pregnancy is also a time when a woman’s skin changes, and putting on makeup and picking the right makeup is just as important. How did you manage to ensure that your skin remains safe and healthy during the LFW x FDCI?

Antara Marwah: Pregnancy for me has always been glowing skin and hair, but it’s different for each woman. I didn’t need much during this time and I feel Vishaka who did my makeup, just worked with my natural skin, highlighting the best parts and keeping it fresh. We added diamontes to complement them with Itrh’s clothes.

Q. You broke societal beauty standards by baring your baby bump on the ramp. What was going on in your mind when you did that?

Antara Marwah: I honestly did it for me first because as women and especially as mums, you only applaud the sacrificing slaving mum, not the thriving ones. I also wondered how I would ask my daughter to feel empowered and accept her body at any stage if I couldn’t follow the talk with my walk! Pregnancy is such a beautiful time in a woman’s life, instead of shame and judgement in our dressing, it needs to be celebrated and done as each woman feels.

Q. All the ramp walk practice during your pregnancy must’ve taken a toll on you, and stress shows up on the skin. How did you maintain your skin during this time?

Antara Marwah: We didn’t do any rehearsals; we went straight for the runway! (smiles)

Q. Most pregnant women opt for comfortable clothes but you changed how women look at pregnancy fashion and that too on the ramp. Could you share some pregnancy fashion tips for women?

Antara Marwah: I feel each woman should do her, on most days you just want to be comfortable and that’s fine. On some days you might want more and that’s completely fine too. I think we need less judgement and directives and more of what feels good to each mom.

Q. Is there anyone in your personal life or a celeb who inspires your maternity fashion? If you were to pick one person whose maternity fashion you have loved so far, who would it be?

Antara Marwah: I guess in recent times it would be Rihanna, she’s such an icon, as a stylist and I have always admired her style personally, it was so unique and so her. She was pregnant too and managed to stay true to herself. To me, that is an achievement. Most of us tend to lose ourselves, we let society and others dictate what we should be like but I believe, staying true to yourself and your style is extremely crucial. Being a new mom does not mean losing yourself, it means evolving into a new and better version. Only you get to choose who that is!

We’re not surprised that Antara adores Rihanna’s pregnancy fashion as much as we loved her gutsy baby bump-baring ramp walk. You go, girl!
