On World AIDS Day, Rakul Preet Singh Spreads Awareness About Safe Sex And Her Upcoming Movie, ‘Chhatriwali’
We cannot wait for this one!
Today is World AIDS Day, a day which is focused on spreading awareness about HIV and AIDS. One of the most crucial tasks for this day is busting myths surrounding AIDS, and spreading factual information. Such as, that contrary to common misbelief, AIDS does not spread through touch. And so, we need to support people who suffer from HIV and AIDS instead of turning them into pariahs. A similar awareness-laden message was brought to us by Rakul Preet Singh through a video that she just posted on Instagram. It was both a social awareness PSA and an announcement about her film Chhatriwali, which will be released directly on OTT, on Zee5.

In this video, Rakul Preet spoke about how old Indian movies used to showcase two flowers getting closer to indicate that the couple was having sex. But it is an outdated concept now. We live in an era of sexual freedom and pleasure and that makes it all the more essential to discuss safe sex as a whole. She also discusses the fact that AIDS doesn’t spread through touch but it doesn’t just stop there. She then talks to us about the fact that if a story dares to touch our hearts and souls, there is no way it can be stopped from spreading and making its way to the top and it’s time to stop being confused about this message and instead, start counting the days as such a fabulous story is being brought to our screens by Zee5, called Chhatriwali.

Rakul Preet Singh unveiled the poster for this movie on November 13, 2022, when she posted it on social media with the caption, “Bin mausam barsaat kabhi bhi ho sakti hai… Apni chhatri taiyaar rakhiye! Presenting the first look of #Chhatriwali.” The first poster itself had started a conversation and caught interest as it featured Rakul holding a box of condoms.

The seemingly social-issue-based drama, Chhatriwali is Rakul’s first female-centric and solo movie. She was last seen in the Ayushmann Khurrana starter social dramedy, Doctor G, where she played a gynaecology student. Chhatriwala then seems like a natural progression for her on-screen journey, no?
This film is reportedly about a chemistry graduate who just isn’t able to find an appropriate job until they end up landing an unexpected gig, that of a condom tester. This shy woman who first tries to hide her new job soon realises the importance of contraception and safe sex. She then takes it upon herself to destigmatise the conversation around sex education. The film is being helmed by director Tejas Prabha Vijay Deoskar and aims to be family-entertaining while imparting knowledge. It also aims to shatter society’s viewpoints about safe sex and various other related matters.
