Exclusive: Sonam Bajwa Feels Unsafe In Delhi, Narrates Horrific Experience. “I Have Had People Following Me”

When it comes to safety, Delhi remains the top most names as the most unsafe place for women in India. And well, it is not just an assumed opinion, but all the incidents and facts that make the Indian capital, a less preferred space for women. And like most of us who’ve had an experience in Delhi, actress Sonam Bajwa, talks about spending her early adulthood in the city. In the latest episode of The Male Feminist, Bajwa reveals some horrific experiences while living in Delhi. “I would not step out after 7 pm,” quickly reacts Bajwa, when sharing her story.

Narrating one of the many incidents, the actress mentioned–”Once this happened to me. I stepped out of my PG at 6.15 pm to buy milk and I had my purse and a friend along. Luckily my phone was in my hand, and we had just come out of the PG, and suddenly two guys wearing helmets popped out of the back lane, grabbed my bag and ran. It took me ten seconds to realise that my bag got stolen.”

She further adds how it is extremely sad that you can’t even walk from one lane to the other. Sonam also cited the example of one of her friend’s scary experiences. She mentioned–”So my friend was in a rickshaw from Delhi and going to Gurgaon, and midway she realised that the rickshaw guy is taking her to some other route. She also asked the guy to stop the rickshaw, but he refused, so she had to jump off the rickshaw.” She mentioned how all of these reasons encouraged her to not go out at all.

Bajwa mentioned that travelling in Delhi never made her feel safe and that she would find it difficult to move out in the evening. She also mentioned that people following her on the road was so normal in Delhi. We totally agree with Sonam. As someone who has been a visitor to the Indian capital has had plenty of incidents to prove why the city serves as the most unsafe spot for women in India. In the latest episode, the actress tells us about her early childhood, her acting career, choices that she stands by and more. Check out the full interview here:
